The Doggie Room used to be the only room with dogs until we expanded to the kitchen and front bedroom.
Bebe was born in 2016. He is still such a youngster and is in constant motion. He loves to give big cuddles and kisses. Bebe is looking for a new forever home of his own and will make some lucky family a wonderful companion.
Beth came to us from a local shelter. She had a horrible case of kennel cough when she arrived but after regaining her strength and having all her vet work done she has been completely healthy. Beth is one of Rick's favorite truck dogs and she goes everywhere with him that dogs are allowed and a couple of places where they aren't!
Buddy was in and out of a local shelter a few times before a local Humane Society asked us to take him in. Buddy suffers from arthritis and dementia but he knows where his bed is at night and he enjoys the sunshine in the yard as much as possible.
Ditto is a little man and very shy with me but loves Rick very much. He is agile and quick and loves to run the length of the back yard as fast as his little feet will carry him.
Gizmo--this little guy came to us from a shelter in Oklahoma. He was frightened at first and didn't really want to be handled. But after he had a little time to settle in he has blossomed into a friendly, funny little guy. At night when he is waiting on his dinner he throws his body against the glass door of the Doggie Room just to remind me that he hasn't gotten his dinner yet.
JJ was born in 2004. In spite of a few ongoing health issues this old boy is very active. He is part of the Three Musketeers with Pudge and Tinkerbell. All three of these babies were owner turn ins from the same family. They are bonded and always cuddle up together at night to sleep.
Max is a gentle man and leader of the Doggie Room Pack. He is one of the first to run outside each morning and one of the last to settle into his bed at night. He is a member of the Three Amigos along with Pete and Rudy. They can always be found cuddled up on the same bed waiting for me to cover them up at night.
Missy was born in 2001. She is a beautiful, quiet little lady that has an amazing grace about her. She is gentle and loving in spite of a less than perfect background.
Pete--this baby was born without his back feet to a breeder. He came to us at a year old with his Mom, Lucy who also suffered with some genetic problems. Pete doesn't get around a lot but he loves the green grass in the summer time and he loves his soft blankets and his bed. We tried a cart for him years ago and he was extremely upset by it. So now he moves around at his own pace and has lived here with us for over a decade. We, sadly, lost his mom last year but we knew she had lived the last 10
Petey is a bit of a loner and has a bed that he claims as his own each night. Petey loves to hunt birds in the yard. Thankfully, he doesn't often catch one but it doesn't stop him from being on constant patrol.
Pudge is the mother of Tinkerbell and they are part of the Three Musketeers with JJ. Pudge loves pecan season around here and will spend hours each day shellling and eating pecans.
Tinkerbell came to us with her mom, Pudge and JJ, and together they make up the Three Musketeers. Tinkerbell is shy and tries to stay fairly close to her mom, but she is always willing to give some sweet little kisses when given the opportunity.
Pumpkin is the big boy of the Dachshunds here at the sanctuary. Pumpkin is totally devoted to Rick and his toys. He and Rick wrestle and play several times each day and Pumpkin can almost always be found carrying around his favorite stuffed toy.
Rick found Rudy out on an isolated road on Christmas Eve 2013. He is part of the Three Amigos and beds down at night with Pete and Max. Rudy spends a lot of his time playing with Striker and he has helped Striker come out of his shell and learn to enjoy his life here at the sanctuary.
Sriker was a stray running around on the truck yard where Rick worked at the time. It took quite a bit of doing for Rick to befriend him and bring him home. At one point last Fall he managed to get out of our gate when a contractor didn't latch it completely. He knew where he was safe though and stood on the other side of the gate looking in until Rick discovered him and let him back into the yard.
Sweetie--this precious girl is blind but that doesn't stop her from enjoying her life. She is active and very aptly named as she is as sweet as they come.
Cashew and Peanut enlighten every day with their sweet faces and antics. Their owner surrendered them to the shelter in Louisiana. They were fostered there until they were well enough to travel to the Sanctuary. Cashew has a slight heart murmur. They love their ear-scratches and snuggling with their people. After their arrival, Peanut began to run with younger pups and Cashew with the elders. Feeling that Peanut would thrive in a home in October 2018 Peanut moved to Ontario Canada.
