Also known as the Blue Room, the Yorty Room was made possible through the generosity of Ed and Tammy Yorty. Some of our more fragile babies make their home here.
Lots of love in this bunch. Check out the photo gallery and then
scroll down to learn more about each special pup.
Dexter is extremely active and healthy for an 18 year old. Dexter is a Momma's boy and he waits for me by the kitchen gate whenever I am out of sight.
Sierra came to us with several tumors on her belly and really nasty teeth. She's a tiny little thing and Rick and I call her our little sack of sugar.
Lexi came to us extremely overweight, heart worm positive, and blind. She has been treated for the heart worms and is a very sweet little lady. Her lack of eyesight does not keep her from being very active.
Ziggy came to us with anxiety problems that made him aggressive. He is doing very well on anti-anxiety meds. We were told he doesn't like males and he was not fond of Rick at first but now they are best buddies. Ziggy sleeps right beside Rick's legs every night.
Pipi came to us when her beloved owner passed away. She was very nervous about noise and other dogs but now doesn't seem bothered at all by the pack. She is docile and sweet and loves her afternoon naps.
Gilbert is a founding member of our "Grumpy Old Men Club". He growls and grumbles all the time. If another dog walks too close to his bed, her growls. When I pick him up to put him in a crate to eat, he growls. He loves Rick but he growls while laying on his back getting his belly rubbed.
Ace came to us when his life-long owner passed away. Ace is a grouchy little man but he is all bark and no bite. He sleeps wrapped around Rick's head on the pillow every night.
Rowdy came to us when his owner passed away. Rowdy was aggressive and hard to deal with for many months but finally softened and has become very attached to Rick. He is still wary of strangers and will live out his days here with us.
Mr. Gibbs came from a breeder and had already lost all of his teeth. He is still a bit shy but loves his life here. He is the only baby we have ever had that likes to go outside and walk in the rain!
Butterfly and Maddie are a bonded pair. Butterfly was born in 2005. Maddie was born in 2007. Butterfly is friendly and mischievous. Maddie is shy and sweet. They can almost always be found cuddled together in a clam bed with their noses sticking out.
Little Bit came to us after being found locked in a back yard of an empty house. She is sweet and spoiled and insists on her Daddy finding her just the right spot each night after everyone else has already cuddled into bed.
Rick scooped Noel off a busy street downtown on Christmas Eve in 2015. She is totally devoted to him and we feel she knows he is the only reason she is still around. Frisky little girl that loves to play fetch.
Winston was found locked in a back yard of an empty home. Rick agreed to take him in and he and Noel have become very bonded to each other. Winston thinks he is Dachshund so we call him our honorary wire hair.
Zoe is 3 years old and she came to us from Rick's Dad. Several times in the last year, Ike was forced to stay in the hospital or rehab facility. Sadly we lost him a few weeks ago. Rick had promised him that Zoe would have a loving forever home here at the sanctuary. She is, like most Chihuahuas, a little hand full but we love her now and we always will.
Christy was a Christmas gift to Rick right after we lost our last Christy who was 19 years old. This baby is officially Christy Vaughn Eicher VI and she runs the show around here.
Millie has severe obsessive disorder and came to us after being passed around to numerous homes who could not deal with her disorder. Millie is a gorgeous Dachshund with huge beautiful ears. We love her in spite of her crazy ways.
Rick picked Gidget up off they road on the way home one day. She was skinny and covered with ticks and fleas. She is now a beautiful, sassy member of our family and will live out her days here with us at the sanctuary.
My sister's grandson rescued Cooper off the streets and then couldn't keep him. We fell in love with this little man right away. He is a typical Chihuahua and is full of vinegar!!
Baby Jade came to us a puppy suffering from seizures. She is our longest term resident here at the sanctuary and her seizures are few and far between now. Baby Jade suffers from dementia now and often doesn't remember where she is. But we remember and we love her dearly.
Mini came to us from a local humane society. She is very shy and likes to stay mostly off to herself. But she has her spot on the bed at night and she manages to keep the other babies at arms length most of the time.
