- Circumstances of arrival: She came to us with a bonded friend, Scooter, who awaits sweet Sydney on the Rainbow Bridge. 😢 🌈 🐶
- Love language: lovin’s and kisses
- Adopter needs to know: Sydney has only three full legs, but that doesn’t slow her down! She doesn’t love to have her nails clipped, but let’s us do it.
- Personality: She is always in a good mood; the only time she really barks is when she is waiting on her chow.
- Vanessa says: Sydney is a wonderful girl. Having only three legs doesn't stop her from jumping down from her kennel after eating! She is very mobile and playful. She is a little thick through the middle. 😉 She gets along with all the other pups and is a social butterfly.

- Circumstances of arrival: surrendered when his human mom needed to stay at a women’s shelter.
- Love language: kisses and jumping in his crate (which is on top of another crate!).
- Adopter needs to know: He is not fond of getting his nails cut, but he will let us do it if we hold him and he gives us kisses.
- Personality: playful and loving
- Vanessa says: He prefers to jump in his kennel to eat! He does a cute sideways walk when you go to pet him. He gets along with all the dogs in the room, and if a new pup comes in, he goes and introduces himself then runs off to go back to the bed. He is good with kids too!
Malin
On January 2, 2023 we took in as emaciated and sick as any dog we have seen. With good food and Trooper Scrambled Eggs, her physical condition improved rapidly. Unfortunately, Malin's showed aggressiveness toward other dogs and to men. Malin's mental and emotional well being had been severely compromised by past trauma. Dr. Jessica Todia tried different medical therapies and situational changes (everything we could think of!) to help Malin. Poor Malin was angry and miserable all the time. Dr. Todia told us she had one last medical intervention available. Finally, a couple of weeks into the new therapy, Vanessa called with news: Malin has had a major breakthrough! Vanessa sent us video of our newest resident, Clark, with Malin hanging out together, eating together, taking walks together, and just enjoying life! Within a few days Malin had stopped growling and barking at the men who help out. She is still quite timid around men, but as long as she can see Vanessa, she is able to face her fears and gradually has been improving more around men. This has been one of the most miraculous turn arounds we have seen.
The time has come to find Malin the perfect 'fur'ever family. We need for her adopter to be within 250 miles of Gardendale, TX. We no longer think it will be impossible for Malin to live in a home with a man, and perhaps even another dog that is passive like our sweet Clark, but obviously we are going to be extremely careful placing her. We do believe that the kennel and pack type living areas that we have at the Sanctuary aren't the best fit for her. We also think she'd do best in a home where her humans are around most of the time. We understand this is quite a tall order, but after witnessing the miraculous transformation of this pup (after many, many failed attempts using other medical and therapeutic interventions), we believe Malin deserves a chance at a happily ever after with her very own family. - Age: 4
- Date of Arrival: May 2023
- Circumstances of arrival: does not like cats.
- Loves: scratches and playtime.
- Adopter needs to know: hearing impaired, chases cats, and a bit larger than most of our dachshunds.
- Personality: loves to play with other dogs and humans. Crate-trained for eating. Chases toys with glee.
- Vanessa says: Pepper loves to join in the song of her people.

- Age: 5
- Date of arrival at Sanctuary: Sept 2022
- Circumstances of arrival: came from LA, no knowledge of previous trauma
Love language: food and treats!- Adopter needs to know: He needs to be fed separately from other dogs, but he is crate trained, which makes that easy. He’s got a dachshund nose and feet in a XL body (35lb), but he’s all dachshund at heart!
- Personality: Sammy is playful; he’s good with big and small dogs. He is also good about going outside to take care of business.
- Vanessa says: Nap time normally comes after he eats, but no matter what time it is, he does get excited to see a human!
Bullet
Some of you have heard his story and know of his miraculous escape from death. If you don’t know about him, though, we’d like to introduce you to Bullet! While he’s not a Dachshund, he’s a very special resident here at the Sanctuary, and we are so glad that we could help him along in his journey. (Also… check out his ears!)
